Goal-based Enrichment

Enrichment is anything you provide animals with that enhances the quality or value of the environment. Ideally it should therefore be closely linked to optimising welfare and promoting positive natural behaviours - something which is being called "Goal-based enrichment". But how do you set those goals? We suggest a process that focuses on the wild and zoo activity budgets, identifying 'gap behaviours' then designing items or activities to targets these behaviour and improve overall welfare.
