In this seminar, we presented empirical data to demonstrate how goal-based, cognitive enrichment can positively impact welfare at the individual level. We used the example of our 2023 study showing dolphins were more engaged by cognitive enrichment items, more motivated for training sessions and performed less anticipatory and abnormal behaviours when they had access to cognitive enrichment. During the seminar, we provided participants with suggestions on practical application of effective enrichment programs and how to measure welfare impacts for all zoo species.
